LINE AND COLOUR PROJECT
REFERENCE IMAGES
I chose these images / "objects" because I wanted them all to have a theme surrounding nature. The first image is a photo of grapefruits, I loved the way the light hit the fruit, adding depth and contrast as well as shadows and highlights. I also really liked the warm toned colour palette. The second photo is a photo of small dried flowers in a vase I made. I thought this photo was a good choice given the amount of texture it has. I also liked that the colour palette was very muted and contrasted the photo of the grapefruit. The next two photos are of my pets, I thought these images were a great opportunity to explore drawing fur and both images have a lot of texture. The last images is of two hands, this image is very simple but I feel as though there's a lot to play around with and experiment with colour, proportion, texture ex...
STEP 1
STEP 2
For the grapefruit image I wanted to try and replicate the same colours within the actually image but I was using watercolour which made the colours a lot more muted and toned down. I ended up really liking the way it looked because it was very calming and peaceful. I chose to add in grey underneath the fruit to represent the shadows casted.

For the image of the hands I chose to use two contrasting colours, blue and orange. I think these colours are powerful and exciting when put together. I extended the fingers of the right hand and flipped the image upside down. The goal when doing so was to make it look like the hand holding is powerful and emotional instead of relaxed and casual.

The last image on the right is honestly not my favourite. I really don't like it. I like the colour palette and the muted tones of red and green but I don't like the overall image. If I had time to go back and redo the image I would add many more flowers and leaves and add a lot more detail.
